Discover the Prehistoric Wonders of the Bunurong Coastline!
Between Cape Paterson and Inverloch lies one of the world’s richest fossil sites, where you can step back 125 million years to a time when dinosaurs roamed what was then part of the supercontinent Gondwana. The Bunurong Coast is home to Australia’s most diverse range of polar dinosaurs and was the site of the country’s very first dinosaur fossil discovery in 1903!
More than 15,000 fossils have been found at The Caves beach near Inverloch, including bones, teeth, and footprints from small dinosaurs that once roamed the ancient floodplain.
Dinosaur tracks along the Inverloch foreshore date back 125 million years, beautifully preserved as a glimpse into Australia’s prehistoric past.
Imagine Australia connected to Antarctica, with a landscape vastly different from today—these fossils capture a piece of that world.
