The Cape is 8 kilometres from Wonthaggi, the regional centre of Bass Coast, which has a regional hospital, medical centre, schools, 4 supermarkets, a regional police station, leisure centre and 50 metre indoor pool and much more. The Cape is also a beautiful 10 kilometer drive along the Bunurong Coast to Inverloch, which has great shopping, cafes, supermarkets and much more.

Cape homes have minimum sustainability benchmarks of 7.5 star energy efficiency, 2.5 kilowatts of solar, and 10,000 litres of rainwater storage. This combination delivers homes that are comfortable year round with minimal heating and cooling and very low energy bills compared to conventional homes on the average housing estate in Australia.

Residents are free to work with our team to design their own homes to their own requirements. They can either work with our preferred designers and builders who have had a lot of training and are delivering high quality sustainable homes at affordable prices, or they can work through their preferred designer and builder. If they choose the second option, house design and construction will need to comply with the Project Design Guidelines and all homes require approval by The Cape Design Review Committee. These steps ensure the quality, aesthetics and performance of all homes meet high standards.

The Cape has worked with a number of quality local builders who have undertaken significant training in sustainable affordable house construction. The preferred builders are listed here.

The Cape is currently completing a $2.5 million state of the art, water efficient, productive community garden to produce a large volume of fresh produce for residents and the community, to be managed as a standalone social enterprise. The garden is based on a clever wicking or bottom watering design to reduce weeding and watering requirements, and is expected to produce over $200,000 of fresh produce per annum. It is open to residents for membership. There is more information here and you can apply for a plots with our full time farmer here.

Dogs are welcome at The Cape and need to be on leash in all public areas at all times to protect resident wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and much more. Cats are not allowed in order to protect large numbers of parrots and other coastal bird species that live on the site.

Lots range from larger 900 sq metre homesites to 394sq metre townhouse sites so there is something there for everyone.

The Cape has a body corporate with an annual fee of $1490. This provides for regular landscape maintenance of all public open space to a high standard by qualified landscapers.
