Check out this video of the Cape Community Farm – a unique asset for our residents, Cape Paterson and Bass Coast…
With growing interest in locally sourced, nutritious, sustainable food, we believe that well designed urban farms should become the norm in all new communities. We put together this short video explaining the Live at the Cape community farm in Victoria’s Bass Coast – a $2+ million state-of-the-art community farm designed to grow a huge amount of fresh produce for the residents of our coastal village. The water-efficient farm is a social enterprise currently under construction, and when complete in 2023 will feature a nursery, farmhouse, events space, over 370 Biofilta wicking beds, community building, market garden areas, composting, rainwater harvesting, an outdoor classroom, social spaces, perennial herb beds, bee keeping and much more. The farm is designed to be economically self-reliant, productive, ergonomic, low maintenance and a model for communities looking to produce great local food. Designed and constructed by The Sustainable Landscape Company, with Biofilta Foodcubes as the main growing system, this advanced urban farm is already growing abundant bountiful food right on the coast within earshot of the surf breaks of the rugged Bass Coast. The Cape community farm shows that well designed farms can deliver multiple benefits – friendships, exercise, reduced food bills and food miles, nutrient and rainwater capture and circular economy practices, mental health, urban biodiversity and urban cooling. We also hope to draw in and distribute produce from local farmers and food producers from the beautiful South Gippsland food bowl through the farm. With increasing food prices and food system challenges in a heating climate, we believe that community farms are a trend that are set to grow as communities and progressive developers look to create resilient, connected, food abundant neighbourhoods and cities. We hope you enjoy the video! |
