We are excited to show you some recent updates of the recent progress at the Cape. Local photographer Alan Foon has captured some beautiful aerial images of the uniqueness of The Cape, including some of the kilometers of walking paths, restored waterways, parks, our $2+ million community farm and large areas of open space, and our beautiful views over Bass Strait.
Over the past few months our skilled landscape team from The Sustainable Landscape Company have been hard at work designing and constructing new additions to the overall landscape including new parks, wetlands, waterways and fitness stations in our final Ocean Views release, and more progress in the community farm.
We are very happy to see streetscapes and common area landscapes maturing, as well as many of the beautiful private residential landscapes. Collectively these combine to add to the habitat, biodiversity and aesthetic beauty of The Cape community, something that is commonly commented on by visitors to The Cape.
With dramatic increases in gas, petrol and electricity prices currently being felt around Australia, the energy efficient homes at The Cape are helping residents reduce energy bills to very little. Cape homes are averaging around 8 star energy efficiency, a national first. As a gas free estate, homes have no gas bills. Homes are averaging 5kW solar systems and all homes have provision for electric vehicle charging. With the combination of home charging and our community EV fast charger, it is great to see more than a quarter of the homes at The Cape are now paired with electric vehicles which allows for many homes to ditch petrol bills. Combined savings on petrol, gas and electricity bills can be very substantial.
The Cape has had some great national media coverage in the Guardian in July, tracking the history of The Cape community from cattle farm to sustainable community. It is an interesting read and you can click on this article here.
With spiralling energy costs and increasing cost of living, new research from the Domain Sustainability in Property Report, released on June 30, has found properties with energy-efficient features not only sell faster, they sell for a massive premium. Homes that feature sustainable design and construction, solar energy, higher energy efficiency and other elements are commanding a large premium of around $125,000 in the market compared to conventional builds.
